“Why has light been given to the weary of soul, and life to the troubled hearts?” Such timeless existential questions, raised here by Brahms, are at the heart of this evening of sacred choral works. The “superb” Rundfunkchor Berlin (Guardian, U.K.) performs under its new director, Gijs Leenaars, in a program where glorious choral works by Bach, Brahms, Schütz, and Schoenberg dissolve into the final haze of Knut Nystedt’s haunting meditation, Immortal Bach.
“Beautiful in the extreme…the chorus joined together in wave upon wave of ecstatic sound.”
—New Yorker on Rundfunkchor Berlin at the 2014 White Light Festival
